The final year students will be graduating from the RMIT Animation degree that Lycette Bros. teach into and the graduate works, as ever, are amazing. Last years show was a sell out at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and I expect it will this year.
I'm pleased to say that Locomotion is once again screening in the Wynyard Walk in Sydney throughout the month of September.
I've recently been digging through some of the video captures I recorded while trying to get some of the 'creatures' to walk in Newton2.0 - the big tall one (we call Strider) was the most challenging to keep from toppling.
A colleague (Salvatore Restivo) at the European Design School of Italy has run a class based on a Lycette Bros. created brief and the outcomes are nearly complete and we look forward to seeing the final works. The name Salvatore used, 'Typostory', we love!
Brief: Choose a typeface. Research its history. The history of typefaces can be quite fascinating. Find an aspect of its story - aesthetic, historical and interpret/write a short narrative. Animate that story using forms/images that are made only from the chosen typeface.
