The final year students will be graduating from the RMIT Animation degree that Lycette Bros. teach into and the graduate works, as ever, are amazing. Last years show was a sell out at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and I expect it will this year.
A colleague (Salvatore Restivo) at the European Design School of Italy has run a class based on a Lycette Bros. created brief and the outcomes are nearly complete and we look forward to seeing the final works. The name Salvatore used, 'Typostory', we love!
Brief: Choose a typeface. Research its history. The history of typefaces can be quite fascinating. Find an aspect of its story - aesthetic, historical and interpret/write a short narrative. Animate that story using forms/images that are made only from the chosen typeface.
Launched a website for the RMIT Animation degree as a promotion and record of the student studios and their outputs. As part of the course students often work with collaborators, both commercial and non-commercial, on projects. There is a varied array of work and serve as a wonderful learning experience for both clients and students.
Lycette Bros has been involved in teaching in multiple organisations for many years. We gladly share our experience and expertise with the next generation of designers and animators. We have taught at RMIT University for many years and have now added our teaching portfolio to the Lycette Bros. website. You can also see much of the graduate work that we have been involved with on this youtube page. Enjoy.
Went on a tour of the giant new screen for Federation Square in Melbourne. We are hoping to do some some content development for it.
RMIT University is renovating the Art Deco theatre, Capitol Theatre. These shots are from its current state. We have plans to one day do custom projections on its iconic ceiling.
Check out the bar areas - it has a relief sculpture of a Chariot race - the cinema opened with a screening of Ben Hur!
